Goldfinch We're very lucky to live well into the countryside where we have a garden that's a haven for wee dickies like this Goldfinch. We're always watching our wee feathered buddies, as so much can be learned by quiet observation. For instance, today at lunch time we were curious to see a tree sparrow 'shadowing' a male blackbird as the blackie collected worms and grubs to feed its young. Well, the surprise came when the blackbird pulled a worm from the ground and was immediately mugged by the tree sparrow. The sparrow nipped an end off the blackie's worm and headed to his nestbox mounted on the garage wall (remind me never to wander around the garden with a worm dangling from my beak... but, where was I? Ah, yes. Here's a Goldfinch (relax Mr Blackbird, he's a seed eater).
